In The Wee Small Hours

So it just so happens that the first album I picked is also the first album in the book. And it’s a Frank Sinatra classic from 1955, In the wee small hours.

I’ve listened to this twice now because I’ve been listening to it while working. It’s a really smooth album which is why I hadn’t realised that it had finished. Frank’s voice is well known and although I’ve heard some songs of his before, so I thought I knew what to expect, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The songs all have that feeling of being from the 50’s, by that I mean they feel real, with real musical instruments playing harmonies that build and lift with the lyrics, ebbing away softly when it matches the tune. The songs are all along the theme of lost love, leading to an introspective feel to the album.

It was really easy to listen to while I was working, completely unobtrusive, and infact closed out the other distractions that I would usually have while working.

The Mission

Thanks for visiting my little corner of the internet.

My mission in writing this is pretty simple. I got a book called 1001 Albums, and I thought I’d listen to them all and write a little post about each.

I’m just a regular guy who likes music and is looking to broaden my listening tastes.

The book is broken down into decades, but I’m not going to listen to the albums in any particular order, so I’ll tag the decades and the artists/bands, and title each post with the album title.

I’m sure some of the albums will be ones I’ve heard before, but I’ll still post something for each regardless.

Anyway, that’s the Mission…
